Most of the political forces represented in parliament welcome Constitutional Court ruling on Istanbul Convention

The ruling of the Constitutional Court that the Istanbul Convention is not in compliance with the Bulgarian constitution, was, on the whole, welcomed by the political forces represented in parliament.

The ruling GERB party commented that they had acted responsibly by referring the matter to the Constitutional Court. The United Patriots welcomed the court decision to declare the Istanbul Convention unconstitutional, and stressed that this is an issue that has categorically got to be closed. The Bulgarian Socialist Party described the court ruling as a victory for common sense, for law over foreign interests, and stated that as before, they shall continue to fight, with all their might, against violence against women and children. The Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) declined to comment.
