Bulgaria’s Minister of Environment and Water Neno Dimov presented to the EU Environment Council in Luxembourg an information note on behalf of the Bulgarian, the Polish and the Slovak delegations. According to the note the EU must undertake measures against the pollution of air stemming from the expected inflow of used cars from EU member states with high living standard to countries with lower purchasing power when the use of such vehicles in some European cities is prohibited. The initiative was supported by Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Romania and Hungary. “The topic related to double standards was widely discussed in the recent months. Initially it concerned the quality and the standards in food products. We are worried that this approach affects other spheres directly related to environment and people’s health”, Minister Dimov told his colleagues at the Environment Council.
