Former Deputy Mayor of Sofia for Transport and Transport Communications Evgeni Krusev was served an indictment for malfeasance in connection with substandard repairs of the tramway track along the central Sofia street Graf Ignatiev which triggered widespread public outrage.

Pending trial, Krusev will have the obligation to register regularly at a police station. Evgeni Krusev was categorical that he has never made individual decisions regarding the repair work or the procurement contracts. In his words, behind these decisions are the signatures of experts, competent in the respective spheres.

The repair work is funded under European programmes, that is the reason why the case has been referred to OLAF.
