To speed up Brexit-related work the number of staff at the Bulgarian Consular Office in Great Britain has been increased. A special section on the consulate's website has been opened, too. Information meetings in the diaspora are also taking place, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva announced. She pointed out that last year May's Cabinet promised that despite Brexit, European citizens residing in the UK, would retain their rights by receiving a status of residence. Within 18 months, Bulgarians on the island will need to get their biometric passports. Zaharieva urged Bulgarian citizens not to wait for the last moment. On a parity basis, the British citizens in Bulgaria will also have no problem settling their status in the Interior Ministry.
