The future of public media in the digital era is in the focus of today’s conference in Sofia organized by the Bulgarian National Radio and the Bulgarian National Television. Director General of BNR Alexander Velev, BNT Director General Konstatin Kamenarov, Bulgarian MPs, members of the Council for Electronic Media, EBU Head of Radio Graham Dixon and non-governmental organizations will participate at the forum. The participants will discuss topics such as: digital transformation, public mission and confidence in BNR and BNT in the digital era, as well as funding for public media. Director General of BNR Alexander Velev pointed out that funding for public media must be based on clear rules and principles. In his view, the best case scenario is when funding for public media is formed as fixed percent of the state budget, which would guarantee their existence. European Commissioner Mariya Gabriel placed the emphasis on the responsibility of public media.

A working group with the participation of representatives of the Bulgarian National Radio, the Bulgarian National Television, the Council for Electronic Media and media experts will prepare a draft strategy for the development of the public media, participants in the conference agreed.
