High avalanche danger in Bulgarian mountains

Photo: library

Avalanche danger in the high parts of the Bulgarian mountains is high, the Bulgarian Red Cross Rescue Service have alarmed. The most serious is the danger of avalanches in Pirin, where the large snowfalls have created avalanches on the steep slopes, no matter their exposure.

The situation is similar in the Rhodopes, where the snow is more humid due to the geographic features. In the rest of the Bulgarian mountains the situation is a bit less dangerous due to the smaller amount of new snow. People should not forget about the existing avalanche areas on the northern slopes of Stara Planina, Vitosha and Osogovo Mountain, the Mountain Rescue Service warns.
