If the Bulgarian banks pass successfully the stress tests and the asset quality review, this country will be able to apply for the ERM2 mechanism in the beginning of July this year. The average stay in the Eurozone waiting room is two years and then the applicant countries usually need another year to prepare for the introduction of the European single currency. Bulgaria can adopt the Euro no earlier than January 1, 2022, this country’s Minister of Finance Vladislav Goranov announced. Minister Goranov attended a discussion in Sofia themed Bulgaria’s Path to the Eurozone. Valdis Dombrovskis, Vice President of the EC in charge of Euro, Social Dialogue, Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union and MEP Eva Maydell also took part at the forum.
