On February 1 Orthodox Christians honor Holy Martyr Tryphon

On February 1 the Bulgarian Orthodox Church honors the memory of Saint Tryphon who died as martyr for his faith in Christ. According to the Bulgarian folk traditions, Saint Tryphon is a patron saint was wine-makers, vine-growers and bar-keepers. Traditionally, men prune the vines on this day. A total of 6,519 Bulgarians named Trifon, Trifonka, Lozan, Lozana, Grozdan, Grozdana, Veselin, Vesko, Veso, Veselina, Vesa, Radka, Radko and Racho celebrate their name day today.
