Bulgaria is the country with the youngest women at childbirth in EU: Eurostat

The mean age of women at birth of a first child in Bulgaria is 26, for the EU this indicator is 29. The biggest share of births of a first child by women under 20 is in Romania – 13.9 percent, followed by Bulgaria – 13.8 percent, Eurostat data show.

5,075,000 babies were born in the EU in 2017, and 5,148,000 – the previous year. Out of all childbirths, 45 percent were births of a first child, and 36 percent – of a second child. The EU average is 1.59 births per woman, in Bulgaria this indicator is 1.56.
