Bulgaria wants EU Membership talks with Turkey to continue

Bulgaria disagrees with calls for ending Turkey's EU Membership talks, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva has said. She commented on a recommendation by the European Parliament that Turkey should not be admitted to the EU. It is not in the interest of the Union to end negotiations with Ankara. Much of Turkish society is pro-European. Of course, this is a two-way process and Turkey needs to make necessary reforms and seek membership. The resolution does not oblige the EU Council or the EC in any way to take this decision. We believe that we must make an effort to turn Turkey back on the path of reforms rather than to end the negotiations," Minister Zaharieva said.
