Bulgaria’s Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov ordered the Supreme Cassation Prosecution Office to check whether the activity of the Democrats for Responsibility, Freedom and Tolerance party (DOST) complies with the provisions of the Bulgarian Constitution and the Political Parties Act. The results will show whether the Bulgarian Constitutional Court will be approached with a request to declare this party anti-constitutional. Bulgaria’s Prosecutor’s Office has approached itself after the leader of DOST Lutvi Mestan started a petition which aims to recognize the existence of national minorities in Bulgaria. According to VMRO party which is part of Bulgaria’s ruling coalition, “the activity of DOST, which is financed by Turkey, is Ankara’s response to the official suspension of the accession negotiations between the EU and Turkey”.
