Bulgaria’s Supreme Prosecutor’s Office of Cassation is investigating this country’s Deputy Minister of Economy Alexander Manolev for misuse of EU funds. According to media publications, Manolev built a private luxurious villa with financing provided by the State Fund Agriculture allotted under the Rural Development operational programme of the European Union. The prosecutor’s office will check whether the guest house is functioning as such or it is merely a private property with private pool and park. According to the EU regulations, the beneficiary of EU funds must use the acquired assets as intended for five years after the signature of the contract.
