The Ministry of Culture is organizing a broad public discussion on the draft of a strategy for the development of culture over the 2019-2029 period.
The document, developed by 150 people, envisages legislative amendments, decentralization in the sector, equal treatment of private, state and municipal institutions and the promotion of cultural tourism, “so as to make Bulgarian culture part of Europe”.
“We, in Bulgaria are not quite sure whether we want our culture to follow the road of Europe where the state is actively involved, or the road taken by America, where everything functions on a project basis. Both models are included in the strategy even though they cannot function side by side,” commented conductor Nayden Todorov, Director of the Sofia Philharmonic at the public discussion of the strategy.
