The Apostolic visit of Pope Francis to Bulgaria culminated in the evening of May 6 with a joint prayer for peace held on Independence Square downtown Sofia. The place was chosen symbolically, because of its proximity to a church, a synagogue and a mosque, perceived as an symbol of unity and tolerance. Representatives of different religious denominations sent their own message for peace. Six children from different religious communities wore lit torches as a symbol of the victory of the light and peace over darkness and confrontation. Pope Francis called for peace on Earth in his address. This was the last event of the official program of Pope Francis in Bulgaria and he said goodbye to the representatives of other religious denominations on Independence Square. On May 7 Pope Francis departs to the capital of the Republic of North Macedonia-Skopje.
