The Bulgarian Cultural Club-Skopje rejected and described as discriminatory the proposal for amendments to the Holidays Act in the Republic of North Macedonia. The text of the proposal envisages that September 22 should be declared official holiday of the “Bulgarians living in Macedonia”. In a letter to the Speaker of the Parliament of North Macedonia Talat Xhaferi the Bulgarian Cultural Club-Skopje says that February 28 should be declared national holiday of the Bulgarian community in North Macedonia. On February 28, 1870 the Bulgarian Exarchate was established by a decree of the Ottoman sultan. The Bulgarian Cultural Club-Skopje reminds that by virtue of the sultan’s firman a plebiscite was held in Macedonia under the control of the Ottoman authorities and the Ecumenical Patriarchate and that the Skopje, Ohrid and Bitola dioceses determined themselves as part of the Bulgarian Exarchate.
