The situation in Plovdiv is going back to normal after the heavy rain

After the heavy rain of the past few days, the situation in Bulgaria’s second biggest city, Plovdivis gradually going back to normal.

The heavy rainfall flooded public buildings and private homes. A crisis headquarters has been up to deal with the situation. People trapped in cars have been rescued and disabled people living alone have been helped out of their flooded homes.

There has been heavy rain in other towns across the country as well. In Veliko Turnovo the River Yantra burst its banks. The water has reached the gates of the 40 Holy Martyrs church in the city’s lowest point, threatening to flood the church building itself.
