The US Congress has approved the sale of eight F-16C/D Block 70/72 multirole fighter jets to Bulgaria, with support, for an estimated cost of USD 1.673 billion.

Within the next two weeks the American side is to submit a draft contract to the Bulgarian side. The expected cost of acquiring the aircraft, with the package of the combat capabilities necessary, will be within the bounds of USD 1.2 billion, the Bulgarian Defence Ministry has announced.

To begin with, Bulgarian parliament approved a sum of no more than USD 1.03 billion for the 8 new multirole jets, but later an annex was approved, allowing a variation from the above sum.
