Fire erupts at "Maritsa-Iztok 2" Thermal Power Plant

A fire broke out at the sulfur cleaning system of unit 7 of Maritsa East 2 Thermal Power Plant in Bulgaria during planned repair works. All measures have been taken to secure the area. There are no injured workers and there no danger for the population in the area. The fire brigade team at plant reacted swiftly and professionally. Currently there is no danger of air pollution. Because of the fire, three of the 8 units of the power plant are currently shut off.

During putting the fire off, part of the plant's 135-meter chimney, where the sulfur cleaning installation is located, collapsed, it was reported.
