Bulgaria continues to compete for the new Volkswagen plant. This is a headline in influential German newspaper Handelsblatt. In an interview for the paper, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said that Bulgaria was outperforming all of the countries in the region when it came to low investment risk. A competitive tax system, business-friendly regulations and state aid within the EU regulations, combined with good transport links and low labor costs, are the country's major advantages. Such an investment in Bulgaria would be a positive signal to the whole of Eastern Europe, PM Borissov pointed out. Volkswagen's management told Handelsblatt negotiations with major candidates for the new plant were ongoing.
