Former Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission in Bulgaria, Plamen Georgiev, has been appointed Consul in the Spanish city of Valencia because of his extremely good contacts with the Spanish law enforcement agencies, it was reported. That is how the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to the BNR's official inquiry regarding the reasons for the appointment.

"Working in this consular district requires extremely good coordination with the local services, and Georgiev is a man who also speaks Spanish," the ministry said in their answer.

Mr. Georgiev resigned as chairman of the anti-corruption commission in July, 2019 after a scandal with an undeclared 186 sq. meters of apartment space.
