Bulgarian Minister of Interior Mladen Marinov has said that the current migrant pressure situation in this country is complicated. Minister Marinov made the statement after meeting with Greece's Minister responsible for Migration, George Koumoutsakos.
There is a risk of high migration pressure across all of Europe, but this issue is particularly important for Bulgaria because it is an external border of the EU. Adequate joint action was a topic of discussion with the Greek minister. Measures to curb migrant pressure have already been taken, but EU policy needs to target particularly problematic areas such as the Eastern Mediterranean and the land border with Turkey.
Bulgaria has called on the European Commission to take measures in three areas - strengthening control on migrant movement within the EU, strengthening border security, as well as actions outside the EU together with countries of origin and transit, the Interior Minister said.
