The Council for Electronic Media opened a procedure for early termination of the term in office of the Bulgarian National Radio Director General Svetoslav Kostov in relation with the interruption in the broadcast of Horizont channel for nearly 5 hours on September 13. Three members of the media regulator voted in favor and two abstained. According to the members who abstained, the decision of the Council for Electronic Media is hasty, because the results of the check of the prosecutor’s office have not been announced yet and at this stage there is no legal basis for early termination of the term in office of BNR Director General Kostov. The media regulator gave Svetoslav Kostov 5 days to state his motifs and considerations in the case.
