Bulgaria’s government ceases relations with the Bulgarian Football Union, including financial relations, until the President of BFU Borislav Mihaylov resigns from his position, this country’s Minister of Youth and Sports Krasen Kralev announced at a breefing at the Council of Ministers. Minister Kralev noted that in the recent years the Bulgarian cabinet did a lot for the development of the Bulgarian football. Many new football pitches were built and the cabinet allotted financial resource for the development of the youth teams. The decision of the Bulgarian government was taken after the Euro 2020 qualifier in Sofia where Bulgaria lost 6:0 to England and suffered its biggest home defeat in its football history. The British media called the game a disturbing and poisonous show due to the racist chanting of some Bulgarian fans. The English Football Association called on UEFA to investigate the case. Enough is enough. There should be severe consequences from UEFA for any racist abuse, the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan wrote on Tweeter. The President of the Bulgarian Football Union said he will not hand in his resignation. On Friday the executive body of the Bulgarian Football Union will hold a sitting and later Borislav Mihaylov will answer questions and give a press conference for the media.

A little later, however, it was announced that the President of the Bulgarian Football Union, Borislav Mihailov, had filed his resignation, which would be presented to the members of the Executive Committee at the meeting on Friday, it became clear from the BFU website.
