Bulgarian PM calls for unity against climate change

For countries with a high share of coal energy, such as Bulgaria, the transition to climate neutrality requires high levels of investment and social measures, Prime Minister Boyko Borisov said at the 25th Climate Conference in Madrid. 46% of the Bulgarian electricity is generated from coal plants, and in winter this percentage reaches 60. But according to Eurostat, Bulgaria occupies the second place in the EU when it comes to reduction of carbon dioxide emissions for 2018, as in Bulgaria the reduction was 8.1%, Borisov said. EU greenhouse gas emissions are only 9% of the world's total. The first and second most polluting countries in the world are not here. These are the United States and China, Borisov said, and called for a global unity against climate change.
