Bulgaria's Culture Minister Boil Banov should persuade the government to allocate money to save the independent sector of culture and the arts in Bulgaria. This demand has been made by the participants in the online meeting between the culture minister and representatives of the independent arts sector. The online forum was also attended by an official from the European Commission, who recorded all the proposals and data on losses incurred by artists due to the restrictive measures introduced.
Proposal have been made for setting up two separate funds - a special fund to assist independent artists and another fund in support of independent cultural institutions. The amount of aid will be based on taxes paid.
Due to the state of emergency declared in Bulgaria and the canceled cultural events, the independent artistic sector has lost 3.5 million euros as by the end of the year it might lose another 8 million euros.
