“The contract for the acquisition of 10 locomotives with Siemens will be concluded in 21 May. The tendering procedure has not been appealed,” Transport Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said for the BNR.

The first engine is expected at the end of 2020. In 2021 the Bulgarian State Railways are to receive all locomotives under the contract.

For the price of EUR 28.4 million the Bulgarian railways are acquiring 10 Smartron engines with consumables for 3 years and 600,000 kilometres, fully ensured and with a 36-month guarantee.

The contract for the purchase of 16 new electric railcars is being delayed by two appeals, one of which is yet to be considered by the Commission for Protection of Competition.
