On 19 May NATO air policing jets from Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey were launched due to Russian air activity close to NATO airspace, the NATO Allied Air Command writes on Facebook.

They intercepted and escorted two Tu-22M3 Russian strategic fighter bombers over the Black Sea. The Russian pilots were flying over neutral waters, in close proximity to NATO airspace. The fighter bombers and the two Su-27 fighter aircraft escorting them entered an identification zone. The mission was accomplished under NATO command.

Two Romanian MIG-21s, two Bulgarian MIG-29s and two Turkish F-16s took part in the air policing mission.
