Bulgaria’s Premier Boyko Borissov and this country’s Minister of Environment and Water Emil Dimitrov exchanged sharp remarks before today’s sitting of the cabinet. Their dispute is over the rehabilitation of a damaged area in Rila National Park carried out under a project financed with EU funds. According to the plan for rehabilitation of the area, some mountain paths are to be covered with gravel. Wooden barriers will be placed as well. Premier Borissov said that yesterday he had ordered the project to suspended and told Minister Dimitrov to meet with environmental organizations who signaled about the construction activities. Whatever the good intentions, there are ways to make it so as not to irritate nature lovers, Boyko Borissov said. Minister Emil Dimitrov underlined in return that he was also against the use of heavy machinery and the restoration of the paths can be done without it.
