At the initiative of the International Maritime Organization, the ship's sirens were sounded in Bulgaria's Black Sea port of Varna at exactly 12 o'clock. The campaign aims to draw attention to the problems of more than 150,000 sailors around the world caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Some of them cannot return home for months, while others cannot board the ships for which they have contracts. There are cases of sailors who have been on ships for more than 10 months.

A global petition in support of seafarers was also initiated in Bulgaria. Currently, few countries allow sailors and crews to change in their ports. The petitioners call for immediate and urgent measures to allow the movement of seafarers.
