European Parliament adopts Mobility package regulating operation of truck drivers

The European Parliament has finally adopted the new rules for international freight transport in the EU. All proposals for changes in the Mobility package have been rejected.

Drivers are not allowed to take their regular weekly rest period in the cabin of the vehicle. If the rest is away from home, the accommodation will be at the expense of the employer. A break period of 4 days is introduced between trips in the same country with the same truck. Every eight weeks the vehicles must be returned to the country of their tax registration.
8 countries, including Bulgaria, will appeal the changes with the EU Court of Justice. According to them, the return of the vehicles to the country of registration will lead to unnecessary environmental pollution.
