Bulgaria calls on EU to continue dialogue with Turkey

At the EU Foreign Affairs Council, Bulgaria called for de-escalation, and restoration of trust and the dialogue with Turkey on topics like migration, security of energy supply, infrastructure, trade, economy and the fight against terrorism.

Attention is called to the fact that the EU’s financial support for the refugees in Turkey must continue. Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva supported the clear messages conveyed by Josep Borrell, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, during his visit to Ankara. The foreign ministers reaffirmed their solidarity with Cyprus in the context of the growing tension in the Eastern Mediterranean, and stressed that the situation does not live up to the EU’s expectations regarding a NATO ally and key partner.
