Ex-deputy PM Daniela Bobeva: Forecasts for 7.2% decline in the economy will be confirmed

"The Bulgarian economy has begun to accumulate serious problems long before the pandemic. It is incorrect to attribute the problems of the economy to the contagion crisis." This was said in an interview for the BNR by Daniela Bobeva - an economist and former Deputy Prime Minister. She also referred to reports from the EC and the ECB in recent weeks with data for 2019, showing unfavourable trends in the development of the Bulgarian economy.
In Bobeva's opinion, the forecast of the European Commission that this year Bulgaria will have a 7.2% decline in the economy will be confirmed. The former deputy prime minister believes that the problems can be overcome with political will. At the moment, however, "we are not moving towards a market economy, but towards the return of old models with increasing state participation, which have turned out to be totally inefficient for Bulgaria," Bobeva said.
