Muslims in Bulgaria are celebrating Kurban Bayrami in compliance with the strict anti-epidemic measures. Due to the coronavirus epidemic the prayers took place outdoors and social distancing was observed, BNR correspondent in Kurdzhali Vanya Apostolova reports.

In Sofia, believers gathered at Lokomotiv Stadium. At the entrance, visitors received a mask and disinfected their hands. Everyone carried their own rug. Chief Mufti's spokesman Jelal Faik congratulated all Muslims around the world on the holiday, bTV has reported.

“A happy Kurban Bayrami to all my Muslim friends! I wish you health and happiness. This is a day that teaches us humility, respect and support, thanks to which we have been living in peace and a spirit of tolerance,” wrote PM Boyko Borissov on his official Facebook profile.

President Rumen Radev also expressed his respect for the religious tradition of Bulgarian Muslims, stressing that the days of Kurban Bayrami are a reminder of the meaning of spiritual advancement, human empathy and mutual tolerance. “Let these values continue to trace the road to personal and public well-being,” the president stresses.
