Employers’ Association: 60/40 measure stimulates unemployment

According to an analysis by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) the government’s measures 60/40 and 80/20 in support of businesses should not continue to be applied in the form they are now implemented.

It is unacceptable for people who are working to receive 100% of their salaries, and for people who are not working to also receive 100% of their salaries, BCCI experts say. In their opinion the compensations for those who are unable to work because of the current situation should be reduced, so they may be stimulated to look for work and to make sure there is production in the country. Unless entrepreneurs are stimulated to return to their normal activities despite the difficult conditions due to the epidemic, unemployment in the country will continue to grow, the experts say.

According to the 60/40 or 80/20 measure part of the salaries of the workers who are unable to work because of the coronavirus crisis are covered by the state, and the other part – by the employers. The idea is for companies to be able to retain their staff despite the crisis.
