Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev is to participate at the celebrations on occasion of the 143rd anniversary of the Shipka Epopee (the Battle of Shipka Pass) on Saturday, August 22nd, the Presidency has announced.
Traditionally, the celebrations on Shipka Peak are held under the auspices of Bulgaria’s head of state.
President Radev will climb the stairs to the Shipka Monument of Freedom together with the citizens who will pay tribute to the Bulgarian volunteers and Russian soldiers who sacrificed their lives for Bulgaria’s liberation from the Ottoman rule. He will deliver a speech at 12 noon.
Initially, it was announced that the official celebrations this year would be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but later the authorities decided to hold the celebrations.
