The documentary “Tanda” by Teodora-Kosara Popova, a student from the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy for Theater and Film Arts, is one of three foreign nominations for the Student Academy Awards, documentary category.
It was selected out of over 1,100 films from all over the world. The documentary, made in one day, tells the stories of four people who dance the tango – Sylvia, Vladi, Davide and Ralitsa, Teodora-Kodsara Popova told the BNR.
For Sylvia, who is a surgeon, the tango is a way to reveal her inner self, eclipsed in her “man’s profession”. The Italian Davide is the only professional dancer in the film. He comes to Bulgaria to teach the tango. For Ralitsa, who is blind, dancing is therapy and a way to feel closer to people. Vladi who is 1.46 m. tall, teaches Taoist techniques. He finds the courage to engage in a dance, in which women wear high heels, and has now started teaching beginner dancers.
The winners of the Student Oscars will be announced on 15 October.
