More than 100,000 virtual sheep and goats receive subsidies

There are over 100,000 virtual sheep and goats, which are actually non-existent, but farmers receive European subsidies for their breeding. This is what Simeon Karakolev, chairman of the National Sheep and Goat Breeding Association told the BNR in connection with the census of agricultural holdings starting on September 1.
Virtual animals appear only in the system of veterinarians, but it does not provide real information on whether this animal is physically present at the site. According to Karakolev, farmers with thousands of virtual animals have been identified. Fines for labeling the animals are not adequate and do not lead to overcoming the problem.
