Bulgaria reports 179 new cases of Covid-19

179 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours out of 8,129 PCR tests performed. 763 patients are receiving medical treatment in hospitals, 56 of whom in intensive care units. 7 people died of Covid-19 and 111 patients have recovered in the past 24 hours. A doctor and a nurse have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in Sliven district, BTA informs. The virus has not subsided in this Bulgarian district and affects all age categories regardless of gender, social and material status.

Captain of Bulgaria’s football champion Ludogorets tests positive for Covid-19

The captain of Bulgaria’s football champion Ludogorets Svetoslav Dyakov tested positive for Covid-19. So far, Svetoslav Dyakov feels good, representatives of his football club specify. This has been the fourth positive PCR test in the football club. Earlier, Claudiu Keseru and Jorjinho were also diagnosed with Covid-19. Dominik Yakov also tested positive and was placed under mandatory quarantine and will not be able to play for the Bulgarian Under-21 National Football Team at the European qualifiers against Russia and Serbia.  

Director of St. Ekaterina Hospital admitted to hospital with Covid-19

The Director of St. Ekaterina Hospital in Sofia Professor Gencho Nachev was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus and is receiving medical treatment in the Military Medical Academy in Bulgaria’s capital. According to his colleagues, he was probably too late seeking medical help and that is why he was admitted in a hospital. So far, it is not clear how the famous Bulgarian cardiac surgeon got infected with the virus. The medical staff at the Military Medical Academy refuses to comment his health condition.

Town of Saedinenie cancels Unification Day celebrations because of Covid-19 pandemic

The town of Saedinenie (Central South Bulgaria) has cancelled the September 6 celebrations on occasion of the Unification of Bulgaria for the first time because of the coronavirus pandemic. The historic proclamation of the Unification of Bulgaria was made after a march by a handful of Bulgarians from the town of Saedinenie to the town of Plovdiv (former capital of Eastern Rumelia). "The event, which is of great significance for all residents of Saedinenie (formerly Golyamo Konare), will not be celebrated in a due manner this year", the mayor of the small Bulgarian town Atanas Balkanski pointed out in his speech on occasion of the forthcoming holiday. Four people dressed as revolutionaries solemnly hoisted the flags in the town center in the presence of municipal councilors only.
