Gotse Delchev is Macedonian and Bulgarian at the same time – he is Macedonian in a regional, and Bulgarian in a national sense, said Assoc. Prof. Naum Kaychev, deputy chair of the Joint Committee on Historical Issues between Bulgaria and North Macedonia for bTV.

This discussion has been blocking the work of the committee for 10 months. Politicians from the two countries have also been stating their opinion. Zoran Zaev, President of North Macedonia, stated he didn’t want anyone to come out loser on the question of Gotse Delchev. Naum Kaychev commented that it is possible for Bulgaria and North Macedonia to both come out winners in this dispute, but only if there is a will to place reliance on archives, and on Gotse Delchev’s own acts and self-determination which, in his words are “more than clear”.
