"The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" is especially important for Bulgaria, as a key to tackling inequalities and achieving a prosperous and peaceful society, said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov during the meeting on sustainable development within the General Debate of the UN General Assembly. Due to Covid-19, the session was held online for the first time.

The pandemic is lagging behind in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals. Exacerbated social inequalities, poverty and the serious consequences of climate change come to the fore. Covid-19 has made it clear that the 2030 Agenda is more important than ever. The announced Decade of Action will also be a Decade of Recovery with a focus on development goals, Borissov said.
