The construction has begun of a cultural and history complex Chengene Skele in the vicinity of the fishing village of the same name close to Kraimorie, a residential district of the city of Bourgas on the Black Sea.
The complex, which will be open to the public, will aim to popularize fishing and traditions, Bourgas municipality says. Chengene Skele has been in existence since 1784 and the municipality aims to develop and popularize all that is unique about it, turning it into a year-round tourist destination. As it turns out, it is in Chengene Skele that the biggest number of fishermen in the country is registered. It is at their request that city officials developed all project proposals, and every step along the way is discussed with the local fishing community.
The project includes the construction of a multifunctional hall, a sailors’ café club, exposition houses with workshops for children, park space with a picnic area and a playground, as well as a seafront promenade and a square with an amphitheatre for small outdoor concerts. The ethnographic complex will be used for training sessions, exhibitions and demonstrations of fishing practices. The multifunctional hall and the amphitheatre will develop into one more hotspot in the cultural life of Bourgas at night, while the park, the seafront and the children’s attractions will bring in visitors during the day. A wharf is being built for the future ship for the tourists arriving at and leaving Chengene Skele.
