More foreigners than Bulgarians spent their holidays by the sea this summer, according to data from the Unified Tourist Information System, which reports on visitors in real time.

Most of the guests were in the municipality of Nessebar, near the largest Bulgarian seaside resort of Sunny Beach. From June to August, 257,701 tourists spent their holidays there, as 131,000 were foreigners. Many guests from abroad spent their vacations in the municipalities of Varna and Balchik.

As a whole for the country, guests from abroad were twice as less as Bulgarian tourists. Apart from a holiday by the sea, Bulgarians preferred Bansko, Velingrad, Samokov and Hissarya. Outside the seaside resorts, foreigners visited mainly Sofia, Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo and Bansko.
