Alexander Andreev was appointed as Chairman of Bulgaria’s Central Election Commission. The MPs from GERB, the United Patriots, Volya and four independent MPs voted in favor of his nomination. The Bulgarian Socialist Party voted against and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms did not participate at the voting.
Andreev was nominated by the Federation of Independent Students’ Unions and supported by GERB party.
Alexander Andreev served as Spokesperson of the election commission until today. He replaces the commission’s former chairman Stefka Stoeva who resigned. Stoeva voiced discontent with the latest amendments to the Election Code which transferred to the Central Election Commission the responsibility for machine voting.
