The National IKAR 2020 Performing Arts Awards will be presented for the 46th time on the last day of October. The ceremony was postponed due to the coronavirus epidemic in March, but will now be held without audience in the hall of the Ivan Vazov National Theater.

The prestigious awards come in several main categories - for supporting and leading female and male roles, for directing, scenography and original music for a theatrical performance. The special award for outstanding contribution to the Bulgarian theater this year goes to actor Marin Yanev, beloved by generations of Bulgarians. The occasion is the 50 years of Yanev's life, which he has dedicated to cinema and especially to theater, as well as his upcoming 77th birthday. A special award is also given to actress Snezhina Petrova for her achievements in the interdisciplinary project "Medea", which was part of the program of "Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019". IKAR for honor and dignity this year goes to director Nikola Petkov. Among the awards presented is IKAR for circus art. It goes to Nikolay Balkanski - a record holder for double somersaults on one and two stilts and heir of the famous Bulgarian family of circus artists, who present their acrobatic achievements around the world and bring glory to this country abroad.

The event is part of the XV edition of the Sofia Theater Salon and the Calendar of Cultural Events of the Sofia Municipality for 2020.
