Extraordinary changes to Food Act proposed

Photo: library

The co-ruling National Front for the Salvation of Bulgaria has submitted extraordinary amendments to the Food Act, regulating the sale of mineral and spring waters, for discussion in Parliament on November 4, BTA has reported. However, debates will be held tomorrow, because today's Parliamentary sitting has failed for lack of quorum.

Parliament's rules allow parliamentary groups to propose topics on the agenda that are included without a vote every Wednesday. A reason behind the proposed changes is a letter from the European Commission that Bulgarian legislation governing the supply of mineral and spring waters did not comply with EU directives. In Bulgaria it is not forbidden to offer natural mineral and spring water from the same deposit under more than one trade name. It is also not necessary to specify the source, which is a requirement in the EU.
