Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Krasimir Karakachanov briefed the National Assembly on his talks with the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Zoran Zaev.

“Bulgaria continues to support the idea of the integration of the Western Balkans into the European structures, and more specifically of North Macedonia, but that cannot happen if the bilateral agreements are violated,” Minister Karakachanov said.

He denied the allegations that the Bulgarian government was being pressured into making concessions which run counter to the country’s national interest. Minister Karakachanov stated that in its positions, the government abides by the friendship and goodneighbour agreement signed, as well as the framework position, confirmed by the Bulgarian parliament by declaration.
