Kapana in Plovdiv is the first creative industry district in Bulgaria. It is now one of the European “Cultural heritage in action” towns developing innovative practices for preserving their cultural heritage assets.
The selection is made with the support of the European Union’s Creative Europe programme, under which organizations such as Europa Nostra, KEA, ERRIN and the Architects’ Council of Europe come together to select towns and regions of the continent which have developed innovative policies, projects and events which have been applied successfully by local authorities.
Thanks to the European Capital of Culture initiative, “Kapana – creative industry district” became one of Plovdiv’s leading projects in 2019.
A year later it is continuing to add different entrepreneurial activities and social partnership. Alongside 31 other places in Europe – in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Italy etc., Kapana was included in a catalogue with a focus on monuments, digital platforms, festivals, museums, fortresses etc. The catalogue will recommend successful models to other towns with cultural heritage assets which are seeking ways to enliven their spaces.
