Chanev was the most successful Bulgarian tenor with an international career. He was a soloist at the National Opera and Ballet in Sofia and the Prague Opera. In one of his latest interviews for the Bulgarian National Radio, the tenor said, "Despite my work across the world, whenever I am free, I come and sing in Bulgaria. I think the best audience is here. The Bulgarian audience can feel it when you immerse yourself in the music".
