Bulgarian film “Fear” grabs Grand Prix at Tallinn Black Nights international film festival

At the 24th international film festival Black Nights in Tallinn, Estonia, the Grand Prix for best film was awarded to the Bulgarian “Fear” by director and screenwriter Ivaylo Hristov, kultura.bg writes.

The action in the movie takes place at the Bulgarian border, along the route illegal immigrants take to reach Germany from Turkey. The main character encounters an African who changes her life dramatically.

“Fear” earned the award because, as the jury comments it is a beautifully-made film that "astutely balances dry humor with important contemporary drama, this clever, impressively scripted and wonderfully performed feature manages the rare feat of being compassionate and provocative while also delivering striking moments of absurdist humor. At a period when the subject of immigration is very much in the headlines this feature is very much a film for our times.”

“Fear” also won the Grand Prix at the Golden Rose 2020 festival in Varna.
