Bulgaria’s law enforcement agencies have identified during an international operation 98 money mules and 100 illegal money transfers worth a total of 2,491,827 Euros. The competent authorities prevented financial damages to the tune of over EUR 13 million, the press office of the Ministry of Interior announced.
The action took place in 26 countries from September 15 until November 30. A total of 4,031 money mules were identified. 422 people were arrested and 1,529 investigations were launched. More than 500 banks and non-bank financial institutions have helped report more than 4,900 fraudulent money transfers. According to Europol statistics, 90% of the money mules were previously involved in cybercrime.
